Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya considered as the oldest tree in whole world, under which Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment. Sri maha Bodhi is the Southern branch of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi at Buddhagaya in India. This is a highly sacred Bodhi could be seen and worshiped by anyone.One of the most sacred things Buddhist have.

This sacred tree is the oldest tree in the world. No tree in the world has been so protected by the rulers of a country over such a long period -2300 years as the Sri Maha Bodhi tree.

In the 3rd century BC, it was brought to Sri Lanka by Sangamitta Thera, the daughter of Emperor Asoka and founder of an order of Buddhist nuns in Sri Lanka. In 288 BC it was planted by King Devanampiya Tissa on a high terrace about 6.5 m (21.3 ft) above the ground in the Mahamevnāwa Park in Anuradhapura and surrounded by railings.
