The name Hikkaduwa is taken from the two words ship kaduwa. Ship(shilpaya) means knowledge and kaduwa means sward. Therefore the name Hikkaduwa means sward of knowledge. Hikkaduwa brings to life incalculable resorts, hotels, restaurants and small shops selling various goodies from seafood to clothing and famous among the tourists as its night life and they make it as their destination.
