Sigiriya is also known as the Lions rock & the most Valuable historical monuments of Sri Lanka.
It is surrounded by gardens, ponds other structures & significant archaeological importance. The view astonishes with the unique harmony between the nature & human imagination.
HISTORY
It was a rock shelter mountain monastery which was donated by Buddhist devotees and later it was rebuilt by King Kashyapa(477-495CE) . It consists of the central rock & 2 rectangular precincts which are surrounded by tow moats & three ramparts.
ATTRACTION & ARCHITECTURE
The Most significant features are lion staircase leading to the palace garden ,Water gardens , cave and boulder garden, terraced garden, Fresco the paintings, have been identified as Apsaras and the Mirror wall. The Buildings & gardens of sigiriya shows the amazing architectural monument used in creative technical Skills. The colossal column of rock nearly 200m high.
LOCATION
It is located in Central province and Situated in Matale District near Dambulla. It can be reached along Colombo –Habarana Highway by turning towards east Inamaluwa.
