POLONNARUW WATADAGE
A great ancient architectural creation PolonnaruwaWatadage is locatedat a sacred area called PolonnaruwaDaladaMaluwa. It is believed that Polonnaruwawatadage had been built during the reign of king parakramabahu 1 to hold the tooth relic of the lord Buddha or during the reign of king NissankaMalla of Polonnaruwa to hold the alms bowl used by the Buddha.
Watadage
Watadage is two stone platforms decorated with figured stone carving to protect a small stupa. Sadakadapahana( moonstone) , muragala ( guardstnes), statue of a Buddha and some of the carvings prove that there is an amazing architectural background at that period. Although some archeologists have suggested that it also had a wooden roof, this theory is disputed by others.
