Dambulla Cave Temple is known as Golden rock temple & Rangiri Dambulu rajamaha Viharaya.The name Dambulla cave temple derives from “Damba=Rock ,Ulla = Fountain. There are five separate caves contains with stunning Buddha statues painting and many more religious arts.And also 153 Buddha Statues and images of Vishnu ,Ganesha and statues of gods and goddesses. It is the Largest cave temple complex in Srilanka. And it is a place of unique interest.
HISTORY
It is believed that temple was built by King Walagambahu in the 1st century BC to 993 AD and later turned caves into a Rock Temple.
LOCATION
Dambulla cave temple is situated about 45 Miles( 72KM) north of kandy, on main Road to the Anuradhapura.
